Hugh Masekela: Deep Cuts

Hugh Masekela: Deep Cuts

South African world-fusion star Hugh Masekela started out as a young man with a horn. As demonstrated by the 1966 track "Sharpville," his affably jabbing licks were there from the beginning alongside some funky mbaqanga guitar. His roots rise to the surface in the drum grooves of "Za Labalala," a seamless meeting of gospel and Soweto street sounds.
