Pianist Hank Jones entered the national jazz scene when he was in his late twenties, and his versatility kept him busy as a sideman. Yet his solo career didn't really take off until his golden years. The splendour of his touch on a ballad like 2005's “SKJ,” cut when he was in his late eighties, reveals his enduring brilliance, while a duet with bassist Christian McBride, more than five decades his junior, on “Alone Together” reinforces the timelessness of his lyric playing.
