Grant Green Essentials

Grant Green Essentials

By joining the melodic improvisational style of hard bop with the grit of electric blues guitar tones, this jazz guitarist provided a template for ‘60s swing and soul. Green was a critical sideman for Blue Note sessions led by Herbie Hancock and Hank Mobley, but it was his own albums that contributed most to the label's heyday. Whether emerging in bebop-influenced compositions or danceable funk grooves, his fleet solos proved memorable (and much imitated, after the fact). Check out Green's takes on a wealth of song styles, all drawn from albums he led himself.
