Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox were originally part of new wave guitar band, The Tourists. But when they split off as a duo, less turned out to be more. Lennox' striking, androgynous persona was an immediate grabber, as was her deep soul-infused voice. Eurythmics went through a number of phases, originally favouring an elegant electronic sound. Then Stewart picked his guitar back up and they made a return to rock. Whatever the context, Eurythmics delivered memorable songs with a sly, subversive take on pop conventions and gender roles.
