Essential Doom Metal

The rumbling, tumbling chug of doom metal has howled through the valleys of music since the early ‘70s, finding gritty genesis in the satanic tunes of Black Sabbath, slowing to a brooding pace with Saint Vitus, and finding a fuzzy footing in the epic songs of Sleep. An expansive genre, the landscape of doom metal is equally inhabited by the towering, Southern-tinged riffs of Thou and the dark, glacial melodies of Bell Witch. Though doom metal comprises a lot of different sounds, these bands find common ground in their doleful, impossibly heavy nature.
