Dr. John: The Night Tripper Era

Teenaged musical prodigy and New Orleans session player Mac Rebennack drew from his native city's mythology to create his enduring stage presence, the hoodoo magician Dr. John. From 1968 through the mid-'70s, his unique blend of funk, psychedelia, and folk with a distinct voodoo/mystical flavour drew critical acclaim while also setting the groundwork for later mind-expanding acts like Beck.
