Diana Krall's rise to fame owes a lot to the world-famous Montréal International Jazz Festival. In 1995, back when she was still relatively unknown, she was booked as part of a tribute concert to Nat King Cole—one of her biggest influences. The rest, as they say is history: Her reputation as a pianist and vocalist grew by leaps and bounds, hitting a high point with the release of 1998's When I Look Into Your Eyes, and 10 years later, she became the first jazz musician to ever play at the Bell Centre, home to the Montréal Canadiens. Whether she's delivering jazzy versions of pop songs (inviting the wrath of jazz purists), playing bossa nova, creating original songs with her husband Elvis Costello, or breathing new life into well-known jazz standards, she brings a subtle mix of technical ability and innate sultriness that appeals to a very wide audience.
