Since emerging from the Pacific Northwest in the late '90s, Death Cab for Cutie have evolved into one of the 21st century's most refined and eclectic indie-pop bands. Complementing Ben Gibbard's vivid, introspective storytelling and soothing vocals, the band works through intricate guitar pop on "A Movie Script Ending," stretches out on the slow-burning piano dirge "Transatlanticism," and then flips that romanticism into the moody, bass-led stalker epic "I Will Possess Your Heart." Over time they've incorporated soft electro flourishes, adding an ethereal gloss to ballads like "Black Sun."
