Cocoon Essentials

Beginning as a duo, French folk-pop act Cocoon struck the right chords with harmonic English-language tunes like 2008’s stripped-down, jangly “Chupee” and the eerie yet tender “Sushi”. Following a hiatus in the early ’00s, Morgane Imbeaud opted not to reunite with Mark Daumail, who then retooled Cocoon into an introspective solo vehicle with a decided electro-pop bent. His tinkling, jovial compositions and innocent song titles often belie dark undertones (“Get Well Soon”, a song about his newborn son’s heart condition) but are equally likely to indulge in homely lyricism (“Colors”, “Baby”).
