Brian Bromberg Essentials

Known for his dazzling and fast-fingered solos, Brian Bromberg is equally adept on acoustic, electric, and piccolo bass. His first break came in the '70s when he toured with Stan Getz at age 19. As a sideman he worked with other giants—including Dizzy Gillespie and Horace Silver—before making his bandleading debut in 1986. Though he leaned toward smooth jazz at first, his playing got more fiery over the years, earning him comparisons to Stanley Clarke and guitarist Stanley Jordan for his finger-tap technique. In 2002 he recorded a tribute to his own favourite bassist, Jaco Pastorius.
