Although they formed in Boston in the early '90s, Big Wreck are truly a Canadian band. Toronto-born singer/guitarist Ian Thornley met his future bandmates (David Henning, Forest Williams, and Brian Doherty) while studying jazz at Berklee College of Music, and they quickly used their technical abilities to craft a complex brand of hard rock. Big Wreck showcased their penchant for complex musical structures on their first album, In Loving Memory, taking cues from prog rock. After a second album, Thornley embarked on a solo career under his own name before reuniting with guitarist Doherty to release Albatross under the Big Wreck moniker.
