Brooklyn-based Big Thief spin profound moments and personal tragedies into fragile indie-folk tales delivered straight to the gut. It’s all propelled by singer/songwriter/guitarist Adrianne Lenker, whose tender, quivering vocals say as much as her words do. The band’s 2016 debut, Masterpiece, found a balance between cathartic noise and woozy ballads of heartache. In a little more than three more years, the quartet would expand on that, releasing three more albums, each allowing Lenker to dig deeper into the psyche before turning her vivid, ever-devastating stories loose among hushed acoustics, twangy psychedelia, and heartland rock.
