The stateside breakthrough of Broken Social Scene in the early ‘00s didn't just shine a light on affiliated acts like Metric—it opened up the oft-ignored Toronto indie-rock community to the world. But since then, communal collectives have given way to anti-social insolence: between the discofied dissonance of Death from Above 1979 and Crystal Castles, and the piledriving punk of F****d Up and METZ, the polite city colloquially known as Toronto the Good has been rebranded Toronto the Loud.
