The chaconne, also called ciaccona, is a popular dance song of Spanish origins from the Baroque era. Introduced in other European countries, it became a noble dance that was favoured in royal courts, and it eventually evolved into an instrumental form that was played by small orchestras or soloists. The musical form of the chaconne (usually in triple meter) was loved by composers who used it as a vehicle for variation on a repeated short harmonic progression.
