Tenor saxophonist Ben Webster had a surprisingly modest catalogue of recordings—both as a leader and as a sideman—and some of his most interesting work tends to get overlooked in favour of his bigger albums. The Reprise release The Warm Moods (“The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi”) was a lush affair fleshed out by a string trio; his work with the Modern Jazz Quartet (“Confirmation”) was upbeat and zesty.
