Like the canniest jazz artists, BADBADNOTGOOD zero in on mood. They can be playful, with Matthew Tavares' liquid keyboards ascending before ceding the floor to Alexander Sowinski's restrained drumming on "Structure No. 3" or piling up sliding melodies and insistent percussion on "CS60." And like the best rap producers, they create backing tracks with enough personality and distinctive swing that they seem to tell their own stories ("Lavender").
