At Home With Marilyn Manson: The Playlist

“It's great to be able to thrive in a time when everyone could be in despair,” Marilyn Manson tells Apple Music about releasing his 11th studio album WE ARE CHAOS during the pandemic. “If everyone's stuck in their houses for now, it's my job to entertain them, like I'm some sort of circus performer. But it is my job, and it inspires me to want to make things because I feel I'm running out of things to watch on Apple TV.” In his revealing At Home With interview with Zane Lowe, the veteran shock-rocker discusses being a sensitive artist behind his stage persona, why his 2000 album Holy Wood is his favourite, and working on CHAOS with country artist/producer Shooter Jennings. Manson also shared an exclusive Apple Music playlist of songs—all of which he listens to in his dressing room while he's on tour. Check out a few of his picks below. PJ Harvey, “Horses in My Dreams” “It is heartbreaking. But I tend to be a sentimental motherfucker, don't I? People wouldn't expect that from me. That's a record [Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea]. I could listen to the whole thing. There's so many different elements of her that are so soulful.” Rick Ross, “The Devil Is a Lie” (feat. JAY-Z) “I had dinner with Rick Ross once, and he said to me, ‘Man, it's been my dream to always work with you.' And I was like, 'What?' But he didn't know that I used to walk out on stage to 'Devil Is a Lie.' And he was really cool. He just seemed very focused and very intelligent about what he wanted to do with music.” Sleigh Bells, “Infinity Guitars” “What I do love about that song the most is the rhythm, how it's like singing. And then it goes to four-on-the-floor where the hi-hat comes in the second half. It's such a headbanger; it's almost a metal song. I think it's fantastic.”
