At Home With Jack Antonoff: The Playlist

“It doesn't help me to think I'm in quarantine—it actually kind of hurts me,” Jack Antonoff says about self-isolating during the pandemic. “I think one of the things that I love about writing is the whole world is happening, and then you choose to step away from it. There’s such a power in that to say, no, we chose this life. And so I think this quarantine is really interesting because it's different: We're all doing this.” Hunkered down at home, the singer-songwriter and blockbuster record producer is putting the finishing touches on his third album under the Bleachers name, finding new and fun ways to stay in touch with his family, and listening to music that takes him back. “Everything on this playlist is from 1998—and the reason why I chose that is because it was a seminal year for me,” says Antonoff of his exclusive At Home With playlist for Apple Music, which includes recommended tunes from Air, Lauryn Hill, Belle and Sebastian, and the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Perfect.” “This album [Adore], and this song, feels like Superman aged on a bus stop stool, drinking a bottle of vodka,” Antonoff says. "There's a total beauty to it, but it's very harsh. It's an attempt at an upbeat song, but it's still heartbreaking to me."
