Equal parts pop savant, new age sorcerer, and contemporary classical innovator, Québécois artist Andre Gagnon got his start as part of the nascent French-Canadian chanson wave in the '60s, a cohort of wry poet-bard singer/songwriters. He quickly turned his attention and talent to concocting genre-defying instrumentals, piano-based work that merged folk, rock, classical, and even disco. Over time, Gagnon's focus shifted toward more expansive compositions—for film and TV as well as his own solo shows—which he invested with an impresario's gift for razzle-dazzle and emotion.
