Alexandre Désilets: Influences

Predictably, Alexandre Désilets’ eclectic, off-kilter indie pop has roots all over the sonic map. The Francophone songwriter pulls from the kinetic art rock of acts like Gorillaz, with their mellow, symphonic “Désolé,” and Vampire Weekend, whose bouncing “Ya Hey” finds a kindred spirit in Désilets’ intense energy. At the heart of his tunes, though, is a keen songwriting craft on par with artists like Nick Drake and his dreamy “River Man.”
