Adolescents Essentials

Adolescents were deeply embedded in Orange County’s influential early-’80s punk scene; original bassist Steve Soto was also a founding member of Agent Orange. However, the band transcended geography with their 1981 self-titled debut LP. A hardcore masterpiece driven by throttling tempos, melodic tension and unsparing social critiques, the album redefined punk with the simmering “Amoeba” and the snotty “I Hate Children”. Adolescents have spent the decades since extending their legacy, thanks to songs like the cage-rattling title track of 1987’s Brats In Battalions and 2018’s melodic, jawing “Queen of Denial”.
