About The Room Upstairs
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Ewan: There’s a really long road with no lights on it in our town. When I was a kid, in the dark, the drive felt like forever. But my parents had a mix CD of The Pretenders, R.E.M., etc. When I hear those songs, I'm back there. It's a good feeling. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? George Harrison, All Things Must Pass (2014 Remaster) Simon & Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water The Beatles, Abbey Road (Remastered) Joe: These albums are some of the earliest music we remember hearing growing up, and I think we both connected through them. Ewan: They have colour; texture; a unique perspective. It feels like there is the real world, and then the artists’ worlds. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Nothing's Beautiful” Ewan: I was worried when I first heard my voice on the recording; it sounded so raw, but I like that now - it's personal. It was everything we wanted our songs to sound like. It was one of those songs where it felt like we'd finally cracked it. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Joe: I remember really enjoying settling into the studio while recording our first album, 'High On Human Emotion'. Ewan: We demoed it on a four-track Portastudio. We got together to listen to it when it was finished. It was a special time.
