About Tay-K

Texas rapper Tay-K wrote and recorded his infamous 2017 breakthrough, “The Race,” while he was on the run from the law. • Around 2014, Tay and his friends formed the group Daytona Boyz and released their debut single, “Drift,” on SoundCloud. • The following year, Tay issued his solo debut single, “BIFF XANNEN,” followed by “Sly Cooper” and “Megaman,” which helped generate buzz in the local rap scene. • In June 2016, Tay was placed on house arrest for his involvement in a home invasion that resulted in a homicide, but he fled to New Jersey one year later. • While on the run in 2017, Tay recorded “The Race,” which dropped on June 30, 2017, the day he was arrested. The single hit No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum. His debut mixtape, #Santana World (+), followed in late July. • The lyrics for “The Race” were submitted as evidence during Tay’s trial. In 2019, he was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
