Hailing from India and based in Canada, Sultaan is one of the fiercest artists to come out of North America’s thriving Punjabi hip-hop scene. While some Indian-born MCs focus on catchy hooks and bhangra rhythms, this rapper sticks to husky rhymes and raw, Punjabi trap beats that invoke West Coast G-funk and Southern rap. Born in 1994 in Jalandhar, India, he started writing rhymes in 2009, inspired by the American gangsta rap of Ice Cube and Nipsey Hussle. Eager to pursue his hip-hop dreams overseas, he immigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada, in 2013, where he teamed up with fellow Punjabi spitter OG Ghuman to found the quietly influential Beeba Boys crew. He’s since built a devoted following among Punjabi listeners worldwide with tracks like 2019’s “Bottles” and 2020’s “Never Gonna Change 2,” delivering sharp storytelling and poetic musings on hustle and realness.
