Hailing from Hyderabad and Jodhpur respectively, screenwriter duo Siddharth-Garima are steadily changing the way feminism and socio-political issues are represented in Indian cinema, both through scripts and as lyricists. First working in non-fiction TV, Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal had the chance to present their poetry—often written on their personal blogs—to film-maker and composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, going on to clinch a Romeo and Juliet-inspired screenplay when dialogue writing for 2013’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, along with working on the lyrics for its soundtrack. Since then, they have worked with Bhansali on films like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, as well as employing comic elements for the socially conscious movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Later taking strides as directors, Siddharth-Garima also penned lyrics for ANIMAL’s hit song “Satranga”, composed by Shreyas Puranik and sung by Arijit Singh.
