Rossa

Rossa is Indonesia’s Queen of Pop, her exceptional vocals placing her among the grand tradition of the genre’s icons. Born in 1978, the artist—aka Sri Rossa Roslaina Handiyani—was a precocious talent, beginning her singing career at just five years old and releasing her debut album at the age of nine. Her 1996 album Nada-Nada Cinta (a title that foreshadowed the romance-focused nature of her later work) brought her a first flush of fame, while 1999’s Tegar secured her place in the spotlight. Since then, Rossa has remained one of Indonesia’s best-selling artists—and been one of the most garlanded with awards. Her influence has spread throughout Asia too, thanks to her blockbuster hits and her inimitable, soaring vocals. In 2023, Rossa released Another Journey: The Beginning, an album inspired by her fellow icons of pop spanning multiple generations.
