About Loverboy
Canadian rockers Loverboy originally considered calling themselves Cover Boy, after getting the idea for their name when they saw a CoverGirl makeup ad in a magazine. ∙ Their first single, 1980’s “Turn Me Loose”—featuring a now-iconic bass-and-synth intro leading into a crunchy arena-rock anthem—shot into the Top 10 and was certified Gold in Canada. ∙ Get Lucky included the band’s 1982 international smash, “Working for the Weekend,” and was their best-selling album, certified four-times Platinum in the US. ∙ VH1 named “Working for the Weekend” on its list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the ’80s. ∙ At the 1982 Juno Awards (Canada’s Grammys), Loverboy won a record-setting six trophies in one night, including Group of the Year, Album of the Year, and Single of the Year. ∙ They recorded the non-LP track “Nothing’s Gonna Stop You Now” as the official U.S. team theme song for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. ∙ In March 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, joining such icons as Neil Young and Leonard Cohen.
