Los Hijos De La Montaña

About Los Hijos De La Montaña

Los Hijos de la Montaña is a duo comprised of Tucson-based musician Sergio Mendoza and Portland-based singer Luz Elena Mendoza (no relation). Both are of Mexican heritage, which has influenced their individual projects, especially Sergio's elaborate, retro mambo-style band Sergio Mendoza y la Orkesta. Luz Elena's group Y la Bamba also incorporates a number of Latin influences into its eclectic indie folk. For this new project, both Mendozas were paired by Los Lobos' saxophonist/producer Steve Berlin to collaborate on a wholly unique record that combines complex indie pop with lush Latin traditions. Teeming with ornate brass sections, strings, synths, and guitars, their self-titled debut was released by the Cosmica label in May 2015. ~ Timothy Monger
