About Lil Berete

While still a teenager, rapper Lil Berete used his melodic music to unify rival sides in his Toronto neighborhood. Now he's reaching millions of people around the world. • Lil Berete grew up in Toronto's gritty Regent Park section. During childhood, he spent four years living in Guinea. His moniker, pronounced like the gun, is taken from his last name. • While he was in Guinea, DJs would ask him to rap on the microphone during parties. He believes the opportunity came from his ability to speak English. • After returning to Canada at 12, Lil Berete balanced music with passions for dance and soccer. • Lil Berete unified two rival sections of Regent Park with a pair of 2018 singles: “Northside” and “Southside.” He has since branded his team STN (Southside To Northside). • He surpassed 40 million streams less than three years after he started releasing music. • For his sophomore project, 2019’s 1 Way Out, Lil Berete worked with several top London artists, including Headie One, Loski, and Deno.
