About JPEGMAFIA
Avant-garde rapper and producer JPEGMAFIA mixes his aggressive delivery, political lyrics, and ironic sense of humor with glitchy beats. • When he was 18, the artist born Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks joined the United States Air Force (hence the title of his second album, Veteran). He created a YouTube channel to post his music while serving abroad. • He’s been using the name JPEGMAFIA since 2015, when he released the mixtape Communist Slow Jams. • JPEGMAFIA often blends samples taken from a wide range of sources—everything from hip-hop and R&B to industrial and ambient music. This creates an immersive tension within his tracks. • He promoted his critically acclaimed third album, 2019’s All My Heroes Are Cornballs, with a self-mocking video in which artists like Kenny Beats, James Blake, and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy describe the music as trash. • His YouTube series HTBAR, short for “How to Build a Relationship,” features music and interviews with other artists. Guests have included Danny Brown, Orville Peck, and Lykke Li.
