Holly Cole

About Holly Cole

Canadian vocalist Holly Cole's smoky voice is sultry, yet she's ironically humorous and candid while reshaping traditional standards and pop classics. Jazz is her bedrock, but not exclusively. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on New Year's Day in 1963, Cole left Halifax for Toronto in 1983 in search of a musical start. Eventually, she and her band, the Holly Cole Trio, became mainstays on the Toronto jazz circuit, pumping out an eclectic array of albums that won over critics and fans alike. By 1997 Cole had dropped the Trio from her name, but her edgy and unpredictable style (as well as her Trio bandmates) remained on subsequent recordings. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
