About Gabbie Hanna
After building a following on social media for her comedy sketches and "emo diary" entries, Gabbie Hanna became a published writer and recording artist. She made her debut as a pop singer with the single "Out Loud" in 2017.
Pennsylvania native Gabrielle Jeannette Hanna earned a degree in psychology and communications with a minor in economics from the University of Pittsburgh before relocating to Los Angeles to work for digital media company Buzzfeed. By that time, she had built a significant following for comedy sketches she posted to her Vine account. A year later, in 2014, she started a popular YouTube channel, and, with followers soon numbering in the millions, eventually left her job to focus on her own projects. In 2015, she partnered with choreographer and dance instructor Matt Steffanina to win the fourth of season of the Web series competition Dance Showdown.
Hanna turned all attention to YouTube after the Vine video platform shut down in 2016, posting parody songs, comedy sketches, and humorous diary entries before releasing the earnest original song "Out Loud" in September of 2017. It reached the Top 30 of the Billboard Digital Songs Sales chart. That same month, Atria/Keywords Press published adultolescence, a book of poetry on contemporary young adulthood written and illustrated by Hanna. Her covers of songs originally performed by Jessie Reyez and Sasha Sloan followed in 2018, as did the single "Honestly," which reached the Top Ten of the digital sales chart. The latter was the lead single from her full-length debut, 2019's This Time Next Year. ~ Marcy Donelson
