About François Joubert-Caillet

Viola da gamba player François Joubert-Caillet is the founder and director of his own ensemble, L'Achéron. With that group, he has recorded the complete viol music of Marin Marais. In 2009, Joubert-Caillet founded the ensemble L'Achéron, named for the mythological Greek river crossed by Orpheus on his way to rescue his beloved Eurydice from the underworld. In 2012, Joubert-Caillet and L'Achéron released the album Anthony Holborne: The Fruit of Love. Central to L'Achéron's recorded repertory has been the complete recording of Marais' works for viol in five volumes (concluding in 2023 with the fifth book). Joubert-Caillet has also recorded the works of lesser-known composers such as Johannes Schenck and Johann Bernhard Bach. He also created his own publishing house, Albus Fair Editions, in 2021.
