About David Boyd Janes
David Boyd Janes’ country music celebrates down-home living but packs a big-city, rock ‘n’ roll punch. Born in the mid-’80s and raised in Toronto, Janes dabbled in music for years and toured in the rock band Running Against Radar. But it was in 2017 that he quit his job selling home heating and cooling appliances to focus on songwriting—influenced by artists like George Strait and Waylon Jennings—and performing full-time. This newfound focus quickly led to 2018’s Thoughts Become Things, a short record that explored a dynamic, modern-country sound mixed with sun-kissed pop (“Summertime Feeling”), lush, sweeping rock (“Letting You Go”), and a touch of twang (“I Ain’t Sticking Around”) over its brief runtime. In 2020, Janes caught a major break when his party anthem “Ready for a Good Time” was featured in an advertising campaign for a chain of barbecue restaurants. He kept the momentum going with “Couldn’t Hurt,” an upbeat barn burner about treating yourself.
