An advocate of modernist and contemporary piano music, Clare Hammond has distinguished herself through her unusual repertoire, which includes seldom-played keyboard works by important but overlooked composers. She has given premieres of many new works, including compositions by Kenneth Hesketh, Robert Saxton, and David Matthews. Her participation in the 2014 centenary of Andrzej Panufnik brought her international recognition, and her album, Reflections: The Solo Piano Music of Andrzej and Roxanna Panufnik, marked her debut on the BIS label. Continuing her exploration of seldom-played music, Hammond recorded a second album titled Étude, featuring piano studies by Sergey Lyapunov, Unsuk Chin, Karol Szymanowski, and Nikolai Kapustin. ~ Blair Sanderson
