American singer/songwriter Brian Christinzio -- aka BC Camplight -- marries tightly crafted, quirky pop melodies with lyrics that explore dark themes informed by his struggles with depression. The Philadelphia-based artist released a pair of albums on U.K. imprint One Little Indian before personal problems sidelined his career. Christinzio eventually made a new home in Manchester, England, signed with Bella Union, and issued How to Die in the North in 2015. His deportation from the U.K. the following year exacerbated his mental health issues ahead of 2018's Deportation Blues, though he was eventually able to return to England and complete his "Manchester Trilogy" of albums with 2020's Shortly After Takeoff. He continued to spin dark-witted pop gold on 2023's very personal The Last Rotation of Earth.
