About Andrew Loog Oldham

Self-styled hustler, manager, and producer, Alan Loog Oldham orchestrated the meteoric rise of the Rolling Stones from obscure R&B cover band to the rebellious poster-boys of the British Invasion. Restyling the Stones’ as the unkempt antidote to the clean-cut Beatles, Oldham earned acres of news copy and publicity for the group, making them a favorite among teen audiences. Soon, several other charges joined his management stable including Marianne Faithfull, the Poets, and the Mighty Avengers. In 1965 Oldham established Immediate Records, boasting an impressive roster of artists such as the Small Faces, the Nice, and John Mayall. Despite such good fortunes, the label collapsed by the end of the ‘60s, as did his relationship with the Stones. By the turn of the millennium, Oldham had penned two memoirs, STONED (1998) and 2STONED (2001), recounting his days as an impresario.
