About Algee Smith

Michigan-born actor and singer Algee Smith, rose to fame in the late 2010s with starring roles in The New Edition Story mini-series and the HBO drama Europhoria, while concurrently launching a music career as an R&B singer. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Smith moved with his family to Atlanta where he began his acting career at a young age. Throughout his teenage years he landed several minor television roles, later moving to Los Angeles at the age of 20 in pursuit of greater opportunities. He'd barely been in L.A. a month when he landed the role of Ralph Tresvant, lead singer of the popular '80s R&B group New Edition, in the 2017 BET mini-series, The New Edition Story. A watershed year for Smith, he also starred in the critically acclaimed crime drama Detroit, and released his first EP, Listen. A mix of smooth, romantic R&B and hip-hop, he delivered a mixtape, 24, the following year before landing another high-profile lead role in HBO's Euphoria. Managing both facets of his career, Smith released his first full-length album, ATL, in 2019, which was anchored by the body-positive single "All Girls Matter." ~ Timothy Monger
