Editors' Notes Canadian country hitmaker Tim Hicks built up his performing chops on the bar circuit before he started releasing albums in the early 2010s. His latest six-track EP Wreck This, produced by his longtime studio partner Jeff Coplan, has plenty of guitar-driven energy and attitude (see: “Floatin’,” “Rowdy Up,” and the title track). It also features a bit of roguish, everyman humour—a country tradition that’s been in shorter supply of late. During “I Know Jack About That,” Hicks sings about being better at cutting loose than doing almost anything else, and during the boogieing country-rocker “No Truck Song,” he blends loneliness and levity into a familiar bro-country fantasy. "This ain't no truck song," he complains gleefully. "This ain't no fishtailin' down a dirt road song/'Cause you ain't with me sittin' pretty, ridin' shotgun/No, girl, you're long gone."
