STN: The Mixtape

Regent Park is a neighbourhood in Toronto notorious for crime but in transition. It’s a community whose sometimes-rival north and south ends rapper/singers Acerrr, JoEazy, and Lil Berete represent. Each member of STN (Southside to Northside) has experienced individual success (check out Lil Berete’s 2018 EP Icebreaker in particular), and now they’re making harmonious, infectious trap together. STN: The Mixtape documents their tense reality in those downtown housing projects with fierce pride. The ominous “Lit” recounts chilling violence and envy (“Shooters in the club giving cuts like a barber,” goes one line), while “Right Now” and “H&M” are celebratory selfies, showing how they went from a dollar and a dream to diamonds in their jewels. STN affiliate Ducey adds uplifting choruses to “Top” and “Dream.” STN: The Mixtape puts the trio’s territorial beefs aside, while never forgetting the struggles that got them here.
