EDITORS’ NOTES

Creating pure pop from rock and funk, Duran Duran’s 2007 hook-up with Timbaland and Danja brings out some unexpected delights. The dance-pop influence is represented in the stuttering synths of “Tempted,” the low-slung beats of “Nite-Runner,” and Timbaland’s flicka-flickering rap in the otherwise reserved electro-pop of “Skin Divers.” And their classic urgent sound is evident in “The Valley” and “Last Man Standing.” But there’s also smooth soul in “Falling Down” and a devastating melancholy folk strum in “Box Full O’ Honey.”
