A terrifically turbulent and topical LP from the Atlanta metalcore band, Headspace is full of surprises. “Blue Wall”, a hard-hitting song dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement, boldly confronts police brutality: “We’re at war with the ones who protect and serve”, sing dueling vocalists Tyler Carter and Michael Bohn. It’s balanced out by radio-friendly, pop-leaning numbers such as “The Realest” and “Lost-n-Found (On a Roll)” and moodier cuts like “I Always Knew”. But the most adventurous is “Yung & Dum”, a screamo-meets-country collaboration with fellow Georgian Jon Langston that seems to purposefully defy genres.
