Even for those unaware that Frankie Pulitzer is the rapping moniker of actor Tom Hardy, there are plenty of clues he leaves throughout his album-length collaboration with CZARFACE, titled Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer. Take “Grim-Visaged War,” which begins with a dusty drum loop and a menacing piano melody. On the cut, Pulitzer offers up a rendition of the “Now is the winter of our discontent” monologue from Richard III. He does so in his famous Bane voice from The Dark Knight Rises. It’s a fun moment, but it’s also not meant to suggest that Hardy coasts on past bona fides or brings distraction to this project alongside the rap supergroup consisting of 7L, Esoteric, and Inspectah Deck. Rather, Hardy proves his worth as a co-conspirator, more than holding his own. Our Favourite track: “Grim-Visaged War,” because Tom Hardy reciting Richard III as Bane is as cool as it sounds.
