EDITORS’ NOTES

Cosmic Slop presents a relatively focused—though still wildly experimental—Funkadelic. "Nappy Dugout" is a riotous, wholly unique celebration of the female anatomy; with full-throated backing vocals and catchy hooks, "You Can't Miss What You Can't Measure" and "This Broken Heart" are would-be psychedelic-soul hits. More seriously, the dirgey, downtuned "March to the Witch's Castle" details a Vietnam vet's return to the U.S., and the reverb-laden title track, about a mother resorting to prostitution, takes social awareness to the dance floor.
