Atlantis - The 7th Album Repackage

Less than two months after releasing their seventh studio album Don’t Call Me—their first full-length since 2018’s The Story of Light and their second as a quartet, following the loss of member Jonghyun in 2017—SM Entertainment K-pop boy band SHINee has reimagined their comeback LP with a new concept and three new tracks. Now that SHINee’s three eldest members Onew, Key, and Minho have returned from serving South Korea’s mandatory military enlistment, they’ve leaned into whimsy. For evidence, see the falsetto ballad “Area,” the ebullient ode to tested and true love “Days and Years,” and the title track—an idyllic interpretation of Plato’s allegory, come alive with a plucky acoustic riff intro, maximalist production, and splashy electro-synth. Woven in with the previously released tracks—the ’90s R&B throwback “Marry You,” the 2000s dance pop of “CØDE,” the slap-happy bass riff of “Kiss Kiss” (featuring an Easter egg reference to TAEYANG’s K-pop classic “Eyes, Nose, Lips”)—it’s clear: For SHINee, more is more.
