Founded in Rio in 1981, Barão Vermelho were pioneers in Brazilian hard rock—they were influenced by the thrashing guitars and emphatic keyboards of the British bands that preceded them. Initially fronted by Cazuza, Barão Vermelho were later led by Roberto Frejat. In the '80s, they released enormous hits like "Pro Dia Nascer Feliz" and performed at the first-ever Rock in Rio festival. Their sound eventually evolved towards more acoustic offerings and electronic experimentation.
