About VIXX

Formed by Jellyfish Entertainment in 2012, the South Korean boy band VIXX spent much of the 2010s making a name for themselves as concept-dols—theatrical, conceptually driven K-pop idols. • The band has incorporated a variety of theatrical concepts—such as voodoo dolls, robots and Greek mythology—into their music videos and album designs. Musically, they’ve embraced balladry, hip-hop, and ambient synth-pop. • VIXX’s 2017 single “Shangri-La” became popular at the end of the year due to the band’s live performances of the song, which incorporated traditional Korean aesthetics and fan dancing. The group performed the song at the opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee general assembly prior to the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics. • The band broke into the Top 10 of South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart with 2013's “Voodoo Doll”, 2014’s “Eternity” and “Error”, 2015’s “Love Equation” and “Chained Up” and 2016’s “The Closer”. • The band didn't release any music in 2020, as several members fulfilled their requisite national military service. • VIXX became a quintet in August 2020 with the departure of Hongbin.
