About El Komander

Norteño singer El Komander began his career writing corridos for such popular regional Mexican artists as Chuy Lizárraga and El Chapo De Sinaloa. ∙ His 2013 debut, El Katch, launched a subgenre called the “altered movement,” which blends folk tales about drug lords with references to high fashion, expensive cars, and explicit violence. ∙ Frustrated with mainstream bias against narcocorridos, he defended the genre in the 2014 hit “Qué Tiene de Malo,” a collaboration with norteño outfit Calibre 50. ∙ The lovelorn single “Malditas Ganas” proved his mettle as a crooner, spending almost six months in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart. ∙ At the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, he was honored as solo Artist of the Year in the Regional Mexican category.
