Miami-born Yves Tumor’s restless improvisational spirit is the secret ingredient in a succession of genre-bending albums. The artist first began making music as a teenager after relocating to Tennessee and learning to play keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. That industrious spirit is evident in Tumor’s debut project, 2015’s When Man Fails You. After signing to Warp Records, Tumor released 2018’s Safe in the Hands of Love and 2020’s breakthrough Heaven To a Tortured Mind. The latter album blended maximal pop vocals with sample-heavy production, a style mostly eschewed on 2023’s Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds), which found the artist moving toward rock and a Bowie-esque persona.
