Hailing from distant Vladivostok, Mumiy Troll have put their stamp on the map of Russian music in a unique style. Thanks to the visibility of well-travelled frontman and founder Ilya Lagutenko—an often whimsical, unpredictable figure trading in outlandish Britpop antics—the band members have become major music and style icons. Still, music is very much at the heart of what distinguishes the group from middle-of-the-road rockers. Kitted out with an endless supply of romantic imagery, they marry retro piano and accordion accents with indie-rock attitude, while they've built a cult following with their TV and film scores.
